Soulstream Ray, Crow Blues Band, Enlly Blue - I Am a Man, Not a Nation

I am a man I am not a nation Not a crowd and never part of a herd Don't try to lock me in your cages Don't put your chains around my world I'd rather break my neck escaping But first I'll tear your fences down What did you expect from me Did you think I'd be a soldier in your system Marching to the letters of your law Not a chance I won't march in formation I won't even fly in a perfect V With all the birds across the sky I won't build a nest to hide in I won't clench my fingers into fists A butterfly could rest between them And I refuse to crush its wings Open up expand become more whole Let your heart grow wider let it breathe A heart that's whole needs something whole And even God must be complete And here's one thing I have to tell you Break the world you've learned to live in Break the fences in your mind Until the road beyond the horizon Opens wide before your eyes Just move one step And your whole world will move with you Go beyond the horizon Where the earth and sky become one line There you'll see your own Picture of wonder Oh oh oh That's all there is That's all there is to know But remember You won't take your former self along All those worn-out rags That you once called yourself You'll leave them all behind And that will be Your very first step And your final step
