Colter Vane, Owen James, Damon Price - Summer On Route Nine

I still remember that summer Like it was yesterday Seventeen and broke as hell Pumpin' gas outside that shell Old black chevy, rust and dust Thought that thing was fast enough Then you pulled up with your friends Laughin' through the rolled-down wind Sunlight caught your auburn hair And for a second i forgot to stare You asked me if the road went west I pointed out beyond the crest You smiled and said "Maybe i'll see you around." That was summer on route nine You were free and so was i Windows down and radio loud Young enough to chase the clouds I don't miss those days because they're gone I smile because they came along Every now and then i find A little piece of route nine Every friday after dark We'd meet behind the baseball park Cherry coke and county fairs Small-town nights and summer air Back then time moved slow somehow Wish kids could feel that feeling now No promises No wedding rings Just two kids learning little things And somehow That was enough That was summer on route nine You were free and so was i Windows down and radio loud Young enough to chase the clouds I don't miss those days because they're gone I smile because they came along Every now and then i find A little piece of route nine Last year i passed that old gas station Different owner Different paint But for one second I saw us there again You laughing Me pretending not to look That was summer on route nine Before the miles and finish lines Before the gray got in my beard Before i learned what people fear Life kept rolling down the road Everybody has their own But every now and then i find A little piece of route nine I don't miss who we became I just love who we were Route nine
