Smokie, Chris Norman - American Girl

She was just an American girl Oh but how she could move me when we Were but two strangers in the night She was out of sight And the music kept drawing her near And her body was swaying as if silently saying I'll be with you Before the night is through Her eyes were like the starlight Her skin was soft as snow She looked like heaven to me And if only she had loved me Well I guess I'll never know But I'll always love you, American girl And the jukebox was starting to play And we danced till the night turned to day To the same old familiar song And the guitar moves along, oh move along Her eyes were like the starlight Her skin was soft as snow She looked like heaven to me And if only she had loved me Well I guess I'll never know But I'll always love you, American girl When darkness surrounds me, I wanna die And no one's got time to ask me why They don't even try Through all those rainy days, she helped me fly Now darling I can't, I can't find Now I've lost my American girl As I sit in my room and the memories haunt me from yesterday She's so far away But the music is lingering on And I find myself here in the tune of the same old familiar song It goes on and on and on Her eyes were like the starlight Her skin was soft as snow She looked like heaven to me And if only she had loved me Well I guess I'll never know But I'll always love you, American girl Yes I'll always love you, American girl I'll always love you, American girl
